Report: Mets to activate J.D. Davis before Friday's game

The Mets will receive another offensive reinforcement coming out of the All-Star break, as Mike Puma of the New York Post reports that third baseman/outfielder J.D. Davis will be activated from the 60-day IL when New York resumes play on Friday night against the Pirates.

Davis has been on the IL for more than two months with a hand injury, and manager Luis Rojas said before the break that Davis would likely be joining the team in Pittsburgh out of the break. Davis looked big-league ready on Tuesday night, logging four hits, three of them for extra bases and one being a home run, for Triple-A Syracuse.

Davis has logged just 48 plate appearances so far this season but he made the most of them, slashing .390/.479/.610. He will likely split time at third base and the outfield when he returns, as Rojas also alluded to last week, telling reporters that Davis will likely be part of a rotation at third base, as Jonathan Villar has shown value in Davis' absence.

But Davis will certainly find regular at-bats because of his hitting ability, and could be in the starting lineup when the Mets return from the long break.
