Sal explains why potentially brutal Mets season could be 'blessing in disguise'
Sal is already sick from watching the Mets, specifically their offense, but believes there is some good that can come from the team's early-season struggles.
Perhaps, if the losing continues, David Stearns and company will be prompted to make the major changes necessary to move the franchise forward.
"This is a blessing in disguise," Sal said. "Stearns will look at this with no emotion, and he's gonna decide over the next few months what he wants the core of this team to be. Who needs to go, who he wants to stay. Whether it's McNeil, Alonso, Nimmo, Lindor, I'm not sure what he can do with them, but he's gonna figure it out.
"Instead of the false belief that this core is good because they had a good run in 2022, nope. False. Fix it now, because it's not gonna get any better."
Sal has long questioned the capability of this Mets core, and if another disappointing season means the organization comes to the same realization and initiates a major shakeup, then perhaps this losing will be worth it in the long run.
"It's only gotten worse," Sal said of the current Mets core. "That's not an opinion. It's a fact. It's only gotten worse since they got swept by Atlanta in 2022."
