Sal fears Mets are in 'real trouble' after dropping series opener in Atlanta

Sal was not happy with the Mets’ series-opening loss to the Braves on Tuesday night, so much so that he fears the teams are in “serious trouble” when it comes to their playoff hopes.

It wasn’t just losing in Atlanta, a typical house of horrors for New York, but it was the way the team looked in the defeat, as well as how the Braves slugged their way to an easy win.

“You can change the players, you can change the ballparks, you can even change the uniforms,” Sal said. “It’s the same damn result when the Mets play in Atlanta under these circumstances.

“I have had it! Now, which a day ago looked like a foregone conclusion…now they are in real trouble.”

Sal went off on the discrepancy between the two teams’ stars, and how Atlanta’s studs seemingly always step up when the two teams face off, and the Mets’ best players wilt against their division rivals. Now, there is the weather issue, which Sal says could further compound the Mets’ issues.

“One game up with five to play, and who knows when the hell they’re gonna be playing these games?” Sal said.

“They’ve been resilient. They’ve earned our trust. This is different…all the resiliency, all the chemistry, OMG, Grimace, and all the fun they had, it felt like it was 1999 again. It felt like it was 2001. It felt like it was 2022 watching them again, in that city against that team in that ballpark, it was lifeless…I think the Braves have all the confidence in the world. I think if they play two games today or Monday, the Braves would win both games.”
