Sal Licata was fired up to open Thursday's show after Francisco Alvarez saved the Mets with two outs in the ninth, so you could expect that Friday morning was even more jubilant after New York won their fifth straight game and swept the first-place Diamondbacks.
"Meeeerry Buckmas!" Sal said. "It's Buckmas in July! The Mets are on a heater!"
What made it even more enjoyable for Sal was watching the Yankees get demolished by the Orioles on the same night that the Mets kept their hot streak rolling.
"Yankees are done! The Mets are on the rise!" Sal said. "They will be in the playoffs, Jerry! This team is back! Buckmas in July!
"The alarm went off at 4 a.m., and I bounced out of bed!"
OK, Sal was joking about the Yankees part, but it was still enjoyable to have a morning where it wasn't his team that was the one drawing all the frustration from fans in New York.
"I still think the Yankees are alive," Sal said. "But for one night, it was fun to watch the Yankees get pounded."
