To Sal Licata, something bigger than any Subway Series matchup, even in the World Series, is how the Mets and Yankees match up in the offseason going forward.
As he mentioned on Wednesday's show, Sal doesn't believe the Mets should lose a bidding war to the Yankees for Yamamoto, given Steve Cohen's pockets – and with BT out Thursday, Mr. Licata got a chance to double down with this rant:
"This is the first head-to-head battle that the Mets with Steve Cohen will have with the New York Yankees, the big bad pinstripes, the greatest franchise in the history of sports – they can do no wrong, and everyone wants to play in pinstripes and be a Yankee, because being a Yankee meant you were getting the most money," Sal said. "Now, that's not the case. Now, you know that the Mets, if nowhere else, have the advantage with the pocketbook. Steve Cohen is going to open it up for Yamamoto and will go all-in, because they need him – and they CANNOT lose out to the Yankees. Specifically to the Yankees, but in general, they cannot lose out on a player that is a free agent that they want badly. That should never happen with Steve Cohen."
