The Mets looked overmatched in game three at home, losing 8-0 after another feeble offensive effort, but Sal Licata says this team has bounced back from too much to believe that Wednesday’s game three was some kind of knockout blow.
“That is the aberration with this team,” Sal said of the lopsided loss in Queens.
“While there are reasons to be upset with the Mets and their performance through the first three games of this series, I don’t feel like the series is lost. Down 2-1, the Mets have been in this situation before. Whether it was a must-win in Milwaukee or coming back after losing the first game in this series 9-0, the Mets have responded every single time.”
Whether it was needing to win in Atlanta to clinch a playoff spot after losing a series in Milwaukee, or going back to Milwaukee and having to win a do-or-die game three despite being down in the ninth to one of the best closers of the last two and a half years, New York has consistently defied the odds and bounced back when needed. They need it now, and Sal says the frustration of game three should be washed away in favor of the belief that they can do again what they’ve done multiple times before.
“I think there is reason to still be optimistic,” Sal said. “This is a long series here. The Mets have work to do, but I’m not giving up hope after last night.
“What I will say is, if they don’t win one of these next two, then I think they’re done. I don’t think they’re coming back going to LA needing to win both.”
