Sal opened Wednesday's show with a declaration of faith in his Mets and Steve Cohen, believing that the team playing this offseason the "smart" way instead of risking getting reckless with their spending this winter.
"I feel good about the future of the New York Mets," Sal said. "I believe in the direction of this team. I actually like it so much that they're not going out there and making a reactionary move and getting Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery…I think what the Mets are doing is very smart.
"Sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make."
Sal also pushes back, strongly, on the idea that the Mets are "punting" on 2024, especially after going all in for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, while still believing that David Stearns and company will add a third baseman, a DH, and another starter this winter to keep the team competitive next season.
"How exactly are you punting if you're willing to go to $325 million for a pitcher who hasn't thrown a pitch in the big leagues yet?" Sal said. "That's not punting…if they like the player, they are gonna go all in on trying to get the player. That's what they did."
