Sal recorded an emergency WFAN Daily on Thursday night, as reports emerged that the Mets had filled their DH spot with J.D. Martinez on a one-year deal.

After celebrating the signing of Martinez, Sal moved right to praising “King Cohen” for eating the luxury tax penalties to bring in a middle-of-the-order bat the bolster New York’s offense.

“King Cohen has delivered!” Sal said. “You ask what he has done. Not only do I try to tell you what he’s done throughout the organization….all that stuff that the Mets were light years behind everybody else. Steve Cohen has made the Mets a premier organization.

“This shows you, right smack in front of you, where the Yankees are worrying about the luxury tax threshold…worrying about being able to keep Juan Soto next offseason and Blake Snell going somewhere else. The Yankees are sitting on their hands…King Cohen says ‘luxury tax threshold be damned!’”

With Cohen showing that he is willing to take on luxury tax penalties for an aging DH, Sal says it means that the wealthy owner will be ready to pounce when a certain Yankees superstar becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

“A little primer for next offseason when you-know-who is gonna be available,” Sal said. “Juan Soto.”
