Sal Licata opened Wednesday's show on fire after umpire Phil Cuzzi and his crew ejected Max Scherzer from his start following a thorough check for sticky substances on the pitcher's glove and hands.
"Get lost Phil Cuzzi you clown!" Sal said at the very start of his open. "I'm sick and tired of Phil Cuzzi. Any umpire we know the name of is no good.
"How come I know who Phil Cuzzi is? Because he sucks as an umpire. Why have there been three ejections for sticky stuff, and all three have come with Phil Cuzzi doing the honors? Get lost you clown!"
Sal isn't buying for one second that Scherzer was using anything but rosin during Wednesday's start, and fully accepted his explanation of what happened when speaking with reporters after the game, that it was sweat and rosin that he washed his hands of after being asked to. He believes that Wednesday's ejection was another example of Cuzzi becoming too much of the story.
"You think Max Scherzer is cheating? You gotta be kidding me with this stuff. He is using legal substances!" Sal said.
"I don't want to start the show talking about Phil freakin' Cuzzi and Max Scherzer getting kicked out of the game…the Mets had a tremendous win with adversity, but you gotta be kidding me with Major League Baseball. Will you get your 'bleep' in order? They have no idea what they're doing.
"Major League Baseball doing all they can to harm the Mets."
