Sal is fed up with hearing about Mets fans clamoring to spend the rest of the season letting the youngsters find their footing in the majors, and essentially commit the rest of the year to development.
“I’m sick of hearing about [Ronny] Mauricio!” Sal said. “How does Baty look? You know what Brett Baty looks like to me? A guy who can’t play third base! What do you think Mauricio is gonna be?”
Rather than focusing on youth, Sal said a team with Steve Cohen as owner should be trying to win now, so he would prefer the Mets continue to try and go on a run with this group rather than waving the white flag.
“I’m tired of watching these young players learn at the big league level,” Sal said. “I’m done with that. they have the highest payroll in Major League Baseball. At this point, it is not worth it to me, as a fan, to sell off pieces for minimal return and just give up on the year. I’d rather bang my head against the wall with this team…I’d rather see them attempt to go to the playoffs.
"I don't care what [Mauricio] is doing in the minor leagues. The major leagues is a different animal."
