The morning show is getting a taste of what WFAN’s overnight callers have known for a long time: Sal Licata is ornery and loves to argue!
We love him for it, but on Monday morning, he showed that it’s not just at work…apparently, certain Sundays have set him off at home, too, which is why Sal is slowing down on his wagering.
“It’s obviously about the money, it always is, but to me…when you have fantasy going, and pools, and then you start betting on top of it – you’re checking your phone all the time and it’s too much,” Sal said. “I’m not healthy on Sundays. My wide asks me to take out the garbage and I’m ornery and that turns into, ‘LEAVE ME ALONE! TAKE OUT THE GARBAGE? CAN DAK PRESCOTT COMPLETE A DAMN PASS HERE? I NEED THE COWBOYS TO SCORE! YOURE WORRIED ABOUT THE GARBAGE!’”
The ultimate case of it’s not you, it’s me, and Sal wanted to clean it up because he doesn’t like who he becomes. So, after the Super Bowl, he swore off betting for a while…until last week, when he decided to start betting on the Braves every day, as he’s trying for the full mal’occhio (that’s “the malloik” for those of you who didn’t learn Italian from Danielle McCartan) with “Operation Stop the Chop.”
“I had not placed a bet since the Super Bowl, until I started Operation Sop the Chop, and hey, they’re 2-2 since!” Sal exclaimed. “I bet on then Wednesday or Thursday against the Pirates, and then all three games against the Cardinals. They lost a series finally and a game in the standings, so we’re good right now!”
As Andrew Bogusch, who is in the update chair this week, noted…Sal is trying to be the Braves’ mush.
“Last night, because the Mets lost, I knew I wanted the Braves to really lose, so I put whatever I had in the account on that,” Sal said. “I have to take matters into my own hands because this team never loses! I don’t know what took me so long – I should’ve started this in June, I’d have cleaned up. I’d either have had a nice bank account, or I’d have taken the Braves down!”
