Sal: 'Mets fans need to change their mindset to one of positivity'
As Francisco Lindor finally showed signs of breaking out of his early-season slump once the Mets left Queens, Sal says it's time for the fanbase to consider a change in mindset, not just when it comes to Lindor, but the team as a whole.
Perhaps it's time to stop being so vocally hard on their own players.
"The Mets fans, they need to change their mentality," Sal said. "Mets fans need to change their mindset to one of positivity.
"I do think Lindor is the type of player that needs positive reinforcement, but I think I'm general, overall…I think it's bigger than just Francisco Lindor."
Philly fans tried to break the mold last season by cheering the slumping Trea Turner, and it paid off, as their new star broke out the rest of the way and nearly helped the Phillies to another World Series appearance.
Sal says it's time for Mets fans to shed their decades of negativity and try something new, and who knows, maybe it will lead to new results.
"There has been a negative feel to the New York Mets and the fanbase for a very long time, and understandably so," Sal said. "There's no harm that can come from changing their mindset and attitude to one of positivity."
