Francisco Lindor had another monster game on Tuesday, going 3-for-4 with a home run to lead the Mets to a 7-5 win over the Nationals.
Lindor is looking like a star over the past 35 games, batting .319 with a .968 OPS and eight home runs after a brutal start to the season.
As Lindor continues to heat up, Sal says the Mets shortstop is looking like one of the best players in the league right now, and will be recognized as such if his torrid stretch continues.
“Forget All-Star. He’s playing at an MVP level right now,” Sal said. “The Mets are in it as far as a playoff spot goes, and he’s driving in big runs with big hits. He’s doing it with power and from both sides of the plate. He plays every freaking day. He plays a Gold Glove defense.
“He is on pace right now, he is playing at an extremely high level where he is working his way - if he does this the rest of the way, he’s gonna be in the MVP conversation.”
Lindor, a notoriously slow starter, set himself back with a rough April and much of May, but ever since, he has been the high-priced star that the Mets paid for, and is leading the team back into playoff relevancy.
“If you take out his slow start…what he’s been doing the last month and a half is MVP-type stuff,” Sal said. “He’s gotten the numbers to a point where they’re respectable now, but think about where they were. This is an incredible run.”
