BT spent much of Thursday’s show clamoring for the Yankees to go after Juan Soto with everything they have, but Sal says the other team in New York should be just as much in play, and could even be in better position to make the trade happen.
“The Mets are in a better position financially and prospect-wise,” Sal said. “There’s no reason why [Shohei] Ohtani or Soto should not be playing in New York…when a guy like that becomes available, you better do everything in your power to get him.”
The Mets just restocked their farm system by selling off veterans at the trade deadline, and the team may be reluctant to trade all of that away again, but Soto is a young superstar that has years of his prime left, and Sal says they need to be in on him, and could match any offer the Yankees make.
“If you’re gonna hold back [Anthony] Volpe, then I can hold back [Francisco] Alvarez,” Sal said. “I agree, the Yankees should be all-in on him. The Mets should be all-in on him.
“One of these teams has to at least get Soto or Ohtani…this is New York.”
