Sal understands the Mets plan of building for long-term success, but his patience is wearing thin with the team neglecting to address short-term needs that make the 2024 team worse off.
"It is time for Steve Cohen to start the process of getting back that crown. He's gotta do something," Sal said.
"For the most part, I've been understanding of their offseason. However, I'm starting to get pissed off…they are acknowledging that they need help. Opening Day is less than a month away."
Amid reports that the Mets have explored depth additions at starting pitcher, and have brought in Luke Voit, Sal can't help but wonder why the team won't address those needs with proven players at those positions, considering the likes of Jordan Montgomery and J.D. Martinez are still available. Those moves would make the Mets clearly better in the here and now, and wouldn't sacrifice the long-term vision, so it is growing increasingly frustrating to Sal that the Mets aren't in on those free agents.
"They acknowledged that they need pitching and a DH, there are pitchers and DHs out there," Sal said. "Yet, while I understand the plan, neither of those moves would destroy that plan for the future.
"Steve Cohen needs to go out there and do something. It's starting to bother me, even as an understanding Mets fan."
