Sal had been reluctant to buy into the 2024 Mets during the first few weeks of their turnaround, but after pounding the rival Yankees once again on Wednesday night, BT asked his co-host if he is ready to say that this team has a shot to do the unthinkable and end their World Series drought.
Now, Sal is ready to say that they are, because why not these Mets?
“The reality is, yes they can,” Sal said. “That would go against everything I believe and everything I’ve watched growing up. “Are they better than the Phillies? Not in any way, shape, or form. But does that mean they can’t beat them?”
Sal pointed to the Diamondbacks last season, a team that won under 90 games but still made it to the Fall Classic, while the Phillies did the same a year before that. so why can’t the Mets repeat recent history and get past the mighty Phillies and Dodgers, or the “sinking like a rock” Braves?
“If that can happen, then I think anything is possible,” Sal said. “So I don’t think there should be limitations.
“Their bullpen is a mess, and even if they add to it, the lineup is good, but is it legit World Series? The rotation is okay, but who is pitching game one of a playoff series? But we’ve seen in these playoffs that anything can happen.
“I’m not putting limitations on what the Mets can do. How could you?”
