Starling Marte is set to make his spring training debut following offseason groin surgery.
Per MLB.com's Anthony DiComo, the Mets All-Star will make his debut on Friday night against the Cardinals, another good sign that the center fielder will be ready to go for Opening Day.
Marte earned his second career All-Star selection in his debut season with New York last year, batting .292 with 16 home runs and an .814 OPS in 118 games. It was a season in which he mostly had to play through pain, including oblique tightness, quad tightness, and a fractured finger that he played through in the Wild Card Series.
Marte decided not to participate in the World Baseball Classic because of his recovery from surgery, but has insisted that his Opening Day availability was not in doubt. It appears things are headed in that encouraging direction with Marte now having a scheduled date to return to game action.
