Starling Marte is on the Mets’ Wild Card Series roster, but even while he was recovering from his fractured finger and trying to be ready to help the team in the immediate future, he was also making sure to help the franchise long term.
The Mets All-Star replied to an Instagram post by Cy Young candidate Sandy Alcantara, who was thanking the Marlins and their fans for the 2022 season, and said, “I’m bringing you to the Mets.”
Alcantara paired up with Max Scherzer, and even Jacob deGrom if he re-signs? That would unquestionably be the best starting pitching trio the game has ever seen, but don’t count on it. Alcantara is signed through 2026 on a very team-friendly deal for a 27-year-old who has become one of the best starting pitchers in the league, and even if the Mets sought a trade, Miami’s asking price would likely be particularly astronomical for a division rival.
But hey, you can’t knock Marte for trying.
