Boomer & Gio: Steve Cohen's latest comments don't sound good for Pete Alonso contract

Steve Cohen appeared on CNBC on Wednesday, hitting on a number of Mets topics. Among them was the owner maintaining confidence in his group despite an 0-4 start, saying it is still very early in the season to have real concern.

Cohen used his hedge fund business as an analogy, saying it would be the equivalent of being in the early days of January of the fiscal year.

Gio took a little issue with that comparison, considering how things went the year before with the Mets.

"My response to that would be 'Yeah, but you have a bunch of guys you hired that are the best in the business, when you trotted out this crap-ass roster this year because you screwed up the two prior years paying a bunch of old guys who sucked,'" Gio said. "So that's not a good comparison."

Cohen also said that last season proved that he can't buy a World Series title, but Gio says that declaration could be debunked as soon as this October.

"Until the Dodgers do it this year," Gio said.

For Boomer, Cohen's comments stressing the need for young, controllable talent could be seen as ominous for Mets fans wanting to see their homegrown star signed to a long-term contract.

"Doesn't sound good for Pete Alonso," Boomer said.
