Steve Cohen has apparently donned a nickname for the Mets veteran core.
The Mets owner took to social media to join the celebration after New York pulled off an improbable comeback win over the Orioles on Tuesday night, and gave kudos to the quartet of Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso, who he dubbed “the Fab Four.”
“Phenomenal win tonight led by the ‘Fab Four,’” Cohen posted on X.
The top four hitters in the lineup had their fingerprints all over Tuesday’s win, as Nimmo went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Lindor hit a home run, Soto continued his torrid stretch with a three-hit night, and Alonso cranked a dramatic game-tying home run in the eighth inning.
Combined, the four vets went 8-for-19 with two home runs, six RBI, a double, a walk, and five runs scored. All four have been hot at the plate of late, keying the team’s turnaround after a dismal stretch in June.
Baltimore held a 6-2 lead in the eighth inning before Lindor smacked a two-run home run, and Alonso followed with one of his own two batters later. Soto won it in the top of the 10th with a single before the bullpen held on for one of the most dramatic wins of the season.
The Mets not only grabbed a win, but may have found a new nickname for their top half of the lineup.
