Steve Somers: Mets are 'tough watch,' proving money isn't the answer

Steve Somers joined Keith McPherson for an extended guest spot during Monday’s show, and he had plenty of time to vent about his struggling Metropolitans.

Steve mainly kept his focus on the high-priced stars who have not come close to earning their payday in 2023.

“You got Scherzer on the team, you have Verlander on the team,” Steve said. “When you have two $40 million a year pitchers on the team, and you have Lindor…it’s tough to watch.

Meanwhile, the Marlins are ahead of New York in the NL East, while the Rays lead the AL East. It’s not a great look for the big-budget Mets, or Yankees, who are chasing teams with payrolls that are microscopic compared to their own.

“What the Mets have proven, and what the Tampa Bay Rays have proven,” Steve said. “Is that money is not the answer.

“The 4 Train and the 7 Train, both are on the fast track to oblivion.”
