Taijuan Walker allows two runs in spring training, Mets debut

Taijuan Walker made his long-awaited spring training debut for the Mets on Tuesday, or should we say Twosday.

Walker pitched two innings in his first start for New York, allowing two runs, two hits and two walks while recording, you guessed it, two strikeouts.

The 28-year-old averaged 94 mph on his fastball, topping out at 95, and started out fast by striking out Matt Carpenter and Nolan Gorman in the first inning, fanning Gorman on three straight fastballs. He then forced Yadier Molina to ground out to finish a perfect first.

Walker ran into trouble in the second, walking Austin Dean to lead off the inning before allowing a single to Justin Williams to put runners on first and second with nobody out. He then allowed a single through the right side to Andrew Knizner, scoring Almora and putting runners at the corners.

Edmundo Sosa and followed with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 2-0 St. Louis, but it could have been worse had it not been for Albert Almora Jr., who made a diving play for the first out.

Walker allowed a walk in between two ground outs to end the second inning and his first outing as a Met. He's expected to be the team's fourth starter this season after signing a two-year, $20 million deal last month.
