Tylor Megill is back, and he gave Mets fans plenty of reasons to be hopeful that he can return to the pitcher he was early in the season.
Pitching in his first game since hitting the IL with biceps inflammation, Megill allowed two runs in 3.2 innings of work, but his lone mistake was a two-run home run to Brandon Marsh in what was a 7-3 win for New York to begin the final leg of its 10-game west coast trip.
"It wasn't too bad, just one bad pitch," Megill said after the game, but more importantly adding that he came through it feeling healthy.
"Arm and body feel good," Megill said ."Being down for a couple of weeks and having some arm pain going on was something that I've never experienced, but it feels good that my arm's back to normal, and [let's] keep it that way."
Megill hadn't pitched since May 11, and was looking like a suitable replacement for Jacob deGrom when he was suddenly pumping fastballs in the high 90s, and he hopes to build back to that soon, as Friday night was just a first step towards being all the way back.
"There was just a lot of bad inflammation in there, but for the most part I'm feeling great right now, so just keep it going throughout the year," Megill said. "Obviously right now with building back up we're going to be a little bit cautious of pitch count and what not…Just trying to keep my arm as fresh as possible."
