Alonso and David Peterson disproved both of those myths on one play Monday afternoon, as Peterson scrambled off the mound and made a Derek Jeter-esque jump throw to first that Alonso scooped out of the dirt to retire St. Louis’ Paul Goldschmidt:

Three up, three down in that first inning for Peterson in Jupiter, and Alonso had already walked, gone first-to-third on a single, and scored on an infield single in the top of the inning to give the Mets a 1-0 lead, so a good game for him too.

As for Goldschmidt?

“I’m just pissed I took that bad of a swing on 3-0,” he joked with the ESPN booth while mic’ed up in the top of the second.
