Was Mets season doomed after Billy Eppler ignored Sal's texts?

The Mets had a rare bright spot in an otherwise disastrous season on Sunday, winning a series after failing to accomplish that feat through the entire month of June.

Even with Sunday's win, New York is all but buried in the NL East at 18 games behind the Braves, and eight games back of a playoff spot.

Sal points to a pair of unanswered texts as the potential culprit for the Mets' disappointing season so far.

"The season turned when Billy Eppler didn't return my text message," Sal said. "Shot him a text message after we met in spring training. I told him 'Good luck this season, great talking to you, thanks for being so gracious,' something like that. I let him know it was me, because he's not saving my number.

"I texted him again months later when the Mets went on a little run, because I was waiting for a good time, I said 'Hey, would you like to come on the show, I'd love to have you.' I was doing evenings at the time, so it was realistic. Nothing back."

Sal eventually had enough of the rejection, and now, even if he wanted to send Eppler another text, he wouldn't be able to.

"I deleted his number," Sal said. "I don't need the rejection. That's fine. I get the message. We had our nice talk, we had our good moment, good luck.

"I'm just saying, I think that was bad karma."
