Why is recently acquired Mets pitcher Joey Lucchesi called “Joey Fuego,” with that nickname in his Twitter handle?
As the lefty told Moose & Maggie on Friday: “I got that nickname my junior year of college. My buddy Ryan, our first baseman, wanted to make me a Twitter account, and we were brainstorming nicknames; he came up with it on a bus ride, and that’s when I became Joey Fuego!”
Lucchesi joined Moose & Maggie from Mets camp on Friday, and also talked about meeting Jacob deGrom for the first time, his first bullpen session of 2021 today, and much more.
