C-Mac: Why won't Mets follow Dodgers contract structure strategy?

The Mets reportedly signed lefty Sean Manaea to a two-year deal on Sunday morning, adding another potential high-risk, high-reward starter to their rotation.

C-Mac doesn't mind the move, as Manaea could bring upside after discovering his own version of the sweeper last season, but it still isn't the kind of move he expected from a team run by Steve Cohen.

"Right now, they are throwing high-risk, high-reward guys…it's not someone that moves the needle," C-Mac said. "They have yet to do anything that is a significant piece."

Meanwhile, the Dodgers inked Teoscar Hernandez to a one-year deal, adding another quality bat with pop, as Hernandez has hit at least 25 home runs in each of the last four full seaons. The deal is reportedly worth $23.5 million, though more than $8 million is reportedly deferred.

That is the kind of signing C-Mac wants to see the Mets make.

"This is a guy who could have fit the Mets," C-Mac said. "He could have been the DH and played some outfield…but the Dodgers just are ridiculous.

"We're gonna talk about Steve Cohen being smart with his money? Just pay these guys and move the money back. It devalues the contract for you. It's no problem. Everybody loves Bobby Bonilla day. It's become a joke we all laugh at. Just do it."
