There’s some criticism and scuttlebutt around social media that the Nets are “buying a championship” or “building a super team of mercenaries” or similar – and to those in that camp, Blake Griffin clapped back on Sunday when asked about the situation.

“It’s funny to me, because for the last couple years, all I’ve heard is how bad I am. I was hearing how bad I was, and now people care for some reason,” Griffin smiled. “Now I sign here and people think it’s not fair. They can say whatever they want, but I don’t really put a whole lot of value in other peoples’ opinions. If I don’t come to you for advice, I’m probably not going to listen to your criticism.”

The Nets have added James Harden via trade and both Griffin and now LaMarcus Aldridge via the buyout market this season, bringing in a former MVP and two multiple-time All-Stars to a team that already contained Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

“I can’t speak for LaMarcus, but I just think it’s amusing,” Griffin said. “I have basketball people that I trust, and that’s who I listen to.”
