Boomer: James Harden almost looked like he was 'throwing the game to lose'

Former Nets star James Harden was seemingly absent from the 76ers’ season-ending loss to the Celtics on Sunday, scoring just three points in the second half of a decisive game seven, where Boston ran away in the final 24 minutes of play.

Harden finished with just nine points, shooting 3-for-11 from the field with five turnovers, and was a dreadful -30 when all was said and done.

Boomer wasn’t saying that he believed this was the case, but it was hard to watch Harden’s performance in game seven without wondering if he was even trying to win.

“Did you watch any of James Harden yesterday? It was like - I want to say this, but I don’t believe it, and I don’t want to get in a fight with anyone over this whole thing - but it was almost like he was throwing the game to lose,” Boomer said. “There were plays in that game that made no sense whatsoever.

“Some of the passes he threw to his teammates, Jerry Rice couldn’t catch those passes.”

Harden has had multiple games in his extended playoff career where the intensity and effort seemed to be significantly less than others, but Sunday seemed to take it to another level for Boomer.

“It looked like he was throwing the game yesterday,” Boomer said. “I’m telling you.”
