Following the Celtics' blowout loss to the Nets in Game 4 Sunday night, a fan threw a water bottle at Kyrie Irving as he was exiting the court.
Boston Police took swift action by arresting the man, later identified as 21-year-old Cole Buckley of Braintree.
TD Garden also reacted quickly with a statement that said he will be banned for life from attending events at the Garden.
“A guest was arrested by Boston Police at the end of tonight’s Boston Celtics game for throwing an object,” the statement read. “We will support and provide assistance to Boston Police as this incident is under review. We have zero tolerance for violations of our guest code of conduct, and the guest is subject to a lifetime ban from TD Garden.”
Several Nets players, as well as Celtics Jayson Tatum and Marcus Smart, reacted to the incident afterwards.
“We’re glad that it got taken care of,” Smart said to reporters. “Unfortunately, one bad seed doesn’t mean that the whole fruit is poisoned. Our fans have been great. We just had a knucklehead decide to do something knuckleheadish and it got taken care of.”
Sunday was the first Celtics game with full capacity since the pandemic began.
