Kenny Atkinson is back in the NBA!
The Los Angeles Clippers officially announced new head coach Tyronn Lue’s coaching staff on Monday, and revealed that Atkinson will be one of 11 staffers on the bench or in the player development role with the Clips going forward.
Atkinson was fired by the Brooklyn Nets on March 7, just before the NBA’s COVID shutdown, after going 118-190 in three-plus seasons at the helm and leading the Nets to the playoffs in 2018-19.
The Long Island native joins Chauncey Billups – whom he coached briefly when he was an assistant with the Knicks – on the staff, which also includes former Nets assistants Roy Rogers and Larry Drew and associate head coach Dan Craig, who had spent nearly a decade with the Miami Heat.
Two of Doc Rivers’ assistants, Jeremy Castleberry and Brendan O’Connor, will also remain on staff, and the Clippers have named Shaun Fein, Cam Hodges, Dahntay Jones, and Beau Levesque as player development assistants.
