Kevin Durant sets new high scoring mark in NBA this season with 51-point masterpiece

Kevin Durant was fined $25,000 for using profanity toward a fan hours before Sunday's game against the Pistons, and the Nets superstar took his anger out on Detroit's defense.

Durant set the new high-water mark for points in a game by dropping 51 in Brooklyn's win over the Pistons, with Durant also adding seven rebounds and nine assists in an all-around dominant performance that led first-place Brooklyn to a 116-104 victory.

Durant took the claim of most points scored in a game this season from former teammate Steph Curry, who is also one of Durant's top competitors for the MVP award this season.

Durant was lights-out from the floor, shooting 16-for-31 and 5-for-10 from downtown. He also was nearly automatic from the free throw line, making 14 of his 15 free throw attempts.

Durant's 51 points are the most he's ever scored in a Nets uniform, and became the 10th 50-point game in franchise history. As for Durant himself, it is the eighth time in his career that he's scored at least 50 points in a game.
