Mike D’Antoni is stepping away from his role on the Nets coaching staff, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
D’Antoni was a finalist for Portland’s head coaching opening before it was eventually given to Chauncey Billups. But the former head coach reportedly plans to continue to pursue potential head coaching opportunities, but won’t be on Brooklyn’s bench, or any bench at the moment, when the 2021-22 season begins.
With just under 1,200 career games as a head coach, D’Antoni certainly has the experience necessary to land a head coaching job. He holds a 672-527 career record with five different teams, including the Knicks, Lakers and Rockets.
