Ben Simmons can't help but laugh at rumor of leaving Nets group chat

Fox Sports’ Ric Bucher made waves on NBA Twitter this summer when he reported that Ben Simmons was asked by teammates in a group chat whether he would be suiting up with the team in Brooklyn’s first-round matchup with the Celtics, and Simmons left the chat without responding.

Simmons strongly denied that report while talking with JJ Reddick on the latest episode of “The Old Man and the Three,” and couldn’t help but laugh.

“No, I didn’t,” Simmons laughed. “That’s what I hate about the internet.

“These f—ing people make anything up and it just gets taken too far. But no, I didn’t leave the group chat.”

Simmons said he almost DM’d Bucher to confront him about it, but instead texted teammate Patty Mills, who also had to laugh at the suggestion.

“I actually texted Patty about that,” Simmons said. “I was like ‘Yo, did I leave a group chat?’ Like, I was so confused. He’s like, ‘Bro, no one even said anything in the group chat for like a month, at that moment.’ There was no one even talking in that group chat when we got to the playoffs.”
