Evan Roberts on state of the Nets: 'They have no credibility. Zero'

Nets superfan Evan Roberts made it clear on Tuesday that from a strict basketball standpoint, parting ways with Steve Nash was the right move, though it should have been done months ago.

“Steve Nash was a terrible head coach,” Evan said to open Tuesday’s show. “He needed to be fired and should have been fired before the season started…I’m glad he’s gone.”

Sticking to strictly basketball, the reports that Ime Udoka, currently serving a year-long suspension as head coach of the Celtics, is the frontrunner to take Nash’s place, would also be the best decision for Brooklyn.

“The best basketball decision for the Nets is to hire Ime Udoka,” Evan said. “He was on the staff, there’s a familiarity with this roster, he was very successful in Boston. From a basketball standpoint, he’s the best hire.”

But, moving away from just basketball, hiring Udoka would only add to the warranted criticisms that the franchise has absorbed in recent years, and especially in recent days with the Nash decision and the handling of Kyrie Irving.

“They have no credibility. Zero,” Evan said. “You want to go investigate what Udoka did? This owner, and this general manger, have no credibility. There is nothing they can say to me or anyone else that’s gonna make us say, ‘You know what? They did a thorough job investigating. Great, bring him in!’

“From a basketball standpoint, he’s the absolute best hire. But at times, don’t you have to take a step back and do things that are, I don’t know, moral?”

Wherever the Nets go from here, Evan will be along for the ride, even if it’s been a painful one of late, with decisions that are hard to justify as a fan.

“As embarrassed as I am with everything this organization has done over the last few weeks and months, I know this,” Evan said. “I’ll be a fan long after all these clowns are gone. Just like I was long before they got here.”
