The Nets could be closing in on finally having their big three on the court together with the playoffs quickly approaching.
General manager Sean Marks spoke with reporters on Friday and gave an update on James Harden, who has been dealing with a hamstring strain since leaving a win against the Knicks with hamstring tightness on April 5. He had missed two games prior due to hamstring tightness, but after playing just 4:22 against New York, further tests revealed the strain.
Per Marks, Harden's rehab has gone as planned and could return to game action if things go well in practice in the coming days.
"James is progressing well," Marks said. "He's looking forward to having at least one or two more play days, which means he'll play four-on-four and five-on-five with the group in practice, and then hopefully if things go smoothly, he'll be out and joining the guys in a game."
Harden has missed the last four games, and suffered his injury just as Kevin Durant made his return from his own hamstring strain, which kept him out nearly two months. So far, the trio of Harden, Durant and Kyrie Irving have played just seven games and a total of 186 minutes together due to multiple injuries and multiple absences from Irving for personal reasons.
Harden was putting up MVP numbers for Brooklyn since coming over from the Rockets, averaging 25.4 points and 11.0 assists per game. The Nets hope to have that production back soon as they look to grab the top spot in the East before the postseason begins.
"He's progressed well," Marks said. "He's met his markers up to this point, and we'll just continue to progress him along. Hopefully it's not too much longer. But at this point I can't put a timetable whether it's two days, or five days or so forth."
