Nets agree to multi-year contract extension with head coach Jacque Vaughn

The KD/Kyrie era may be over in Brooklyn, but the Jacque Vaughn era isn't going anywhere.

The Nets announced Tuesday morning that they have agreed to a multi-year contract extension with Vaughn, who took over as interim coach when Steve Nash was fired on Nov. 1 and was named permanent coach a week later.

"Jacque has made an immediate and immeasurable impact on our entire organization since assuming the role of head coach earlier this season," Nets General Manager Sean Marks said in a team statement. "On the court, he's clearly demonstrated his leadership through his ability to connect and communicate at a very high level while displaying tremendous instincts for the game. As a person, they don't come any better than Jacque. His character is impeccable, and there is not a better representative for our team and our borough. We are thrilled to have Jacque lead the Nets for years to come."

Since Nov. 1, Vaughn has led the Nets to a 32-19 record, fifth-best in the NBA, and a 16-11 mark on the road, third-best in the league.
Per the Nets' release, Brooklyn is also one of just three teams in the league to boast a top-10 offense (seventh in the league in offensive rating) and top-10 defense (ninth in the league in defensive rating), and under Vaughn, the team ranks first in three-point percentage and blocks per game and second in both field goal percentage and opponent field goal percentage – the only team in the Top 5 in both field goal percentage categories.

This is Vaughn's second stint as nets head coach; he replaced Kenny Atkinson just before the COVID shutdown in 2020, and ended up leading the Nets to a 7-3 record and their playoff series against the Raptors in the NBA bubble. He is in his seventh season overall with the franchise, having spent most of 2016-22 as an assistant (save that interim stint) before being elevated again in November.
