The Nets are hoping to make it through a deep postseason run with their big three intact, but they’ll be without another regular contributor for at least the next week and a half.
After leaving Brooklyn’s game two win over the Celtics with a foot injury in the second quarter, Jeff Green has been diagnosed with a strained plantar fascia and will be reevaluated in 10 days, head coach Steve Nash said Thursday.
Green’s injury was initially announced as a bruised left foot.
Green, 34, has been a big boost for the Nets this season, averaging 11.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game during the regular season, averaging 27 minutes per game. He shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 41.2 percent from outside the arc in 68 regular season games.
The veteran also brought plenty of postseason experience to the Nets, as Tuesday’s game two win was his 74th career playoff game. He had nine points in 38 minutes in the series.
With Green out, Blake Griffin, Nicolas Claxton and Bruce Brown could be candidates for increased minutes. With a commanding 2-0 lead over an inferior Celtics team, Brooklyn should be fine for the rest of its first round series, but the road ahead will be more difficult if Green misses any time in future series.
