Nets suffer historically bad loss in lopsided blowout

Jacque Vaughn's first game since signing a multi-year extension for the Nets head coaching job did not go as hoped.

In fact, it went historically bad.

Facing a struggling Bulls squad riding a six-game losing skid, Brooklyn put forth its worst performance of the season, and arguably its worst since relocating from New Jersey, in a 131-87 loss in Chicago on Friday night. The Nets trailed by as many as 50 in their largest margin of defeat this season, though still less than a month since losing by more than 40 to the Celtics back on Feb. 1.

It was the team's worst loss since 2012, before moving to Brooklyn.

The team shot just 37 percent from the floor, including a lowly 24.4 percent in the first half, which ended with the Nets trailing 63-29.

Things didn't improve in the second half, as the Nets trailed by 50 two different times in the fourth quarter in an embarrassing defeat that saw their lead on the surging Knicks for the sixth seed in the conference dwindle to just one game.
