Much like the Knicks with Kevin Knox, the Brooklyn Nets’ Summer League team contains a big surprise name: Brandon Knight.

In addition to all five of the Nets’ 2021 draftees, as well as holdovers Reggie Perry and Alize Johnson, the biggest name on the squad is Knight, the No. 8 overall pick in 2011. Knight averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 assists over his first six seasons with Detroit, Milwaukee, and Phoenix, but a torn ACL cost him the entire 2017-18 season, and he was never the same.

Knight averaged 6.8 points in 39 games between Houston and Cleveland in 2018-19 while still battling effects of the knee injury, and then 7.3 points in 25 games between Cleveland and Detroit in 2019-20 before sitting out last season after a workout with the Bucks ended without a contract.

Of the other six players on the roster: Bowden and Gates were with the G League Long Island Nets last season; Duke and Rachel are on board as undrafted free agents out of Providence and Tulsa, respectively; Silva played 11 games for Sacramento last season before being traded to Miami and waived; and Weatherspoon played 20 games for the Spurs while on a two-way deal.

The Nets begin Summer League play in Las Vegas on Monday; they will play Memphis, Milwaukee (Aug. 11), Washington (Aug. 12), and San Antonio (Aug. 15) in pool play ahead of the championship tournament bracket.
