Gio says Warriors title makes Kevin Durant look worse: 'They didn't need him'

The Warriors are celebrating a fourth NBA title in the last eight years, turning a lottery team into a champion in the span of one year, while Kevin Durant is stuck on one playoff series win with the Nets.

In Gio's eyes, that leaves a noticeable dent in Durant's legacy.

"Kevin Durant leaving Golden State to go to Brooklyn to do something different and grow his brand and win a championship in another place and team up with Kyrie Irving, looks worse with what happened last night," Gio said during Friday's show. "That is not a debate. That's a fact."

Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green all celebrated together on Thursday night after finishing off the Celtics in game six, and Durant, who was brought in to join that star-studded trio, hasn't found that level of success since signing with Brooklyn alongside Irving. Instead, injuries and a trade demand from James Harden has left the Nets in a strange place, potentially on their way to having one of the biggest superteam failures in NBA history.

"When you leave that place and that same core that won with you then wins without you, then obviously it makes you look worse," Gio said.

"All those guys won four [titles]. Kevin Durant won two of them, but…they didn't need him. The reason they lost that 3-1 lead to the Cavs, in my opinion, was all because of the Draymond Green suspension."
