According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, there is "renewed optimism" that Kyrie Irving will suit up for the Nets this season.
The report didn't specify what capacity a potential return would look like for the superstar point guard, whether it be in full capacity via a COVID-19 vaccination or plan that would see Irving strictly play in road games, but according to Charania, those around Irving and the Nets seem more hopeful that a return is coming.
Irving hasn't played this season, as he remains unvaccinated, and indoor gyms in Brooklyn require at least one vaccination shot for entry.
Nets team governor Joe Tsai has previously stated that Irving would have to meet Brooklyn's vaccination requirement to participate with the team, and that he would not be around in a part-time capacity. But that stance could be changing, or Irving's stance on receiving a COVID-19 vaccine could be changing.
Per Charania, Irving and teammate Kevin Durant have increased communication with each other regarding Irving's future role with the team. Teams have reached out to Brooklyn regarding Irving's trade availability, but the Nets have yet to entertain that option.
Without Irving, Brooklyn still holds the top spot in the Eastern Conference thanks in large part to Durant, who is a top candidate for the MVP award.
