Report: Nets are front-runners to land Blake Griffin

Blake Griffin has agreed to a buyout with the Pistons, becoming an unrestricted free agent, and the Nets could be the six-time All-Star's next stop.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Brooklyn is considered to be the favorites to land Griffin, who is expected to make a decision sooner than later.

Griffin, 31, was last an All-Star in the 2018-19 season with Detroit, when he averaged 24.5 points per game. His offensive numbers dropped dramatically the following season, though he only played in 18 games. He is shooting 36.5 percent from the field this year and 31.5 percent from downtown.

The Lakers, Clippers, Heat and Warriors are among the other teams interested in signing Griffin.

Griffin's decision could come sooner than later, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, with the Nets being among the teams considered for his next stop, along with Golden State, Miami, and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Griffin was owed $36.6 million this season and $39 million next year, which made trading him difficult for Detroit. Injuries have lessened his value in recent year, but a contending team like the Nets, who currently have a former Griffin teammate in DeAndre Jordan, could use more help at the rim, which could make Griffin a desirable piece for the team's hopeful championship run.
