The Brooklyn Nets are apparently in the mix to sign free agent Otto Porter Jr. -- four years after they came close to acquiring the veteran small forward.
In fact, the Nets are reportedly Porter's preferred landing spot.
The 28-year-old Georgetown product was thought to be "leaning toward" signing with the Nets leading up to the start of NBA free agency on Monday evening, according to Tony Jones of The Athletic.
The eight-year veteran's promising career has been hampered by injuries in recent seasons, limiting him to 56, 14 and 28 games in each of the past three years.
The apparent dip in Porter's stock has seen him trade twice, first from the Washington Wizards to the Chicago Bulls in 2018-19, and then from the Bulls to the Orlando Magic last season.
The former No. 3 overall pick seemed to be coming into his own in his final years with the Wizards, who nonetheless dealt him to Chicago in February 2019 in exchange for Jabari Parker, Bobby Portis and a second-round pick.
Porter's time in Washington nearly ended sooner than that, when the Nets made a strong run at signing him as a restricted free agent in July 2017. The Wizards matched the Nets' four-year, $106.5M offer sheet, however, keeping him in D.C.
Porter boasts solid shooting rates through his career, including 48% from the field, 40% from deep, and 79% from the free-throw line.
The Nets would presumably have competition for Porter's services, with the Jazz being at least one other team that is interested, according to Jones. But it seems like Porter wants to is ready to give it a shot in Brooklyn after their near-miss several years back.
