The Nets have officially announced the signing of LaMarcus Aldridge, and the team has waived forward Alize Johnson. Terms of the Aldridge deal were not released, but it is reportedly for one year and $2.6 million.
Aldridge joined Brooklyn last season after agreeing to a buyout with the Spurs, but his season with the Nets lasted just five games before an irregular heartbeat caused by a heart condition led him to retire.
But Aldridge was medically cleared to play earlier this week, and the 36-year-old will look to run it back with the Nets, who are loading their bench with frontcourt veterans.
Aldridge was efficient in his brief stint with the Nets, averaging 12.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. The seven-time All-Star is averaging 19.4 points and 8.2 rebounds over his 15-year career.
Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Aldridge’s medical clearance comes from both independent doctors and doctors affiliated with the Nets.
Johnson originally joined the Nets on two 10-day contracts last season and then signed a multi-year deal with Brooklyn on April 11. He averaged 5.2 points and 5.0 rebounds in 10.5 minutes in 18 games last season, but the team is now loaded up front after signing Aldridge and Paul Millsap and acquiring Jahlil Okafor and Sekou Doumbouya from Detroit in the DeAndre Jordan deal.
