If the Nets make it to the NBA Finals, could Spencer Dinwiddie be on the floor?
That’s the 27-year-old’s plan, according to a Saturday report by the New York Daily News. Dinwiddie is reportedly hoping to rejoin the team soon and is hoping to be ready to return from a torn ACL if the Nets make it to the Finals.
Dinwiddie suffered the ACL tear back in late December in just the third game of the regular season when he collided with Bismack Biyombo in Charlotte. He has been rehabbing in Los Angeles since the injury, which was later considered to be a partial tear, leaving Dinwiddie determined to get back before the end of the season.
A Finals return would mark roughly six months from the injury to returning to the court, and of course, Dinwiddie’s health is only part of the obstacle, as the Nets could decide to play it safe and leave Dinwiddie on the bench instead of returning from surgery and being thrust into what would be the most intense series of the year. Head coach Steve Nash didn’t sound convinced that Dinwiddie would make a playoff appearance this year, stressing caution, but did say “stranger things have happened” when asked about it last week.
Dinwiddie had the best season of his career last year, averaging 20.6 points and 6.8 assists per game, both career highs.
