Evan came up with a wild conspiracy theory for why the Ravens were unable to mount a comeback against the Chiefs in Sunday’s AFC title game, and it revolved around a referee that had lost his voice.

“Shawn Smith was the official for the Chiefs/Ravens game, and you may have noticed something about Shawn Smith during this game…struggling with the voice,” Evan said. “He’s struggling to speak!

“Until it became too obvious to ignore, 12 men on the field, the personal foul on Roquan Smith when he purposely went offsides, besides that, that was the last time Shawn Smith turned his mic on. He was done. Shawn Smith realized, ‘I can’t do this anymore. I am struggling to announce these penalties.’ So, Raven fans, there were multiple drives of Ravens fans sharing clips and graphics, ‘This is a PI,’ ‘That’s a PI,’ and they were never called. Did you ever ask yourself why? It’s not because they’re helping the Chiefs. It’s not because of Taylor Swift. It’s because Shawn Smith made a business decision.”

That decision? Not calling penalties so he wouldn’t have to continue to be embarrassed on national TV with his cracking voice.

“He said, ‘I’m gonna be mocked! I can’t even speak! It hurts for me to announce these penalties,’” Evan said. “Shawn Smith decided, ‘No more!’ he told his crew, ‘No more! I can’t speak anymore. No more penalties.’”
