The local hockey teams will have to wait an extra few days to get back on the ice following the NHL's Christmas break.
The NHL announced late Friday night that they will not resume the league season prior to Tuesday, Dec. 28, which means that the three scheduled games for Monday – the Rangers hosting Detroit, the Islanders visiting Buffalo, and the Devils in St. Louis – will all be postponed until a later date.
The full statement from the league:
"The National Hockey League announced today that its regular-season schedule will not resume prior to Tuesday, Dec. 28. The League had planned to resume its schedule on Dec. 27, but in order to allow the League and the NHL Players' Association and their medical experts an adequate opportunity to analyze League-wide testing results and to assess Clubs' readiness to play, the target date for resumption of game play will be pushed back an additional day. Teams will return to practice on Dec. 26 and it is expected that the League will provide an update on its return to play plans by the end of day on Sunday."
The Rangers said in a release that they will "communicate directly with ticket holders" regarding the postponement, but all tickets purchased for the originally scheduled game can be used for the rescheduled date, whenever that may be.
As of now, the three locals are all set to resume their seasons on Wednesday, Dec. 30, with the Islanders hosting Detroit at UBS Arena while the Devils will visit Buffalo and the Rangers will visit the Panthers.
