Sh*t just got real when it comes to the 2021 Pulse of the People Award.
As one WFAN host posited last week, when the nominees were whittled down to three station entities, you don’t want to be the first of the bunch out – but there’s some controversy on that front, because Al Dukes was eliminated on Friday…without Jerry Recco, who continues on.
Jerry is, apparently, still in the running, even though he and Al were a team going in – and this was the official statement from the Pulse of the People Committee:
Al, naturally, was not happy:
He later called in to Carton & Roberts to offer this synopsis: “Win as a team, lose as a team, so how is half of the team still standing? It just seems like the rules were changed halfway through.”
C-Lo posited that it was because the news of Jerry being a lifesaver came after the nominations, and Craig mentioned that maybe it’s because Al takes holiday weekend Fridays off.
“We even each other out – I don’t work Fridays before major holidays and Jerry does!” Al said.
It was also posited that maybe the committee was upset Al was thinking of giving up Whimsy, or is policing expired registrations too much in his complex like a narc – but Al said he’s working out his issues with his dog, and defended his vigilante-ism as “being a good neighbor trying to do the right thing.”
“It was not meant as a negative, but was turned into a negative,” Al said of the latter.
Alas, Al is out, so it’s down to Jerry, new daddy Gio, and Evan, whose continued place in the running was also baffling to Al.
“I can’t believe Evan squeaked by leaving those milk clothes in the office,” Al said, to which Evan replied: “I think that will hurt Jerry – a lot of people are blaming Jerry for the Game 7 loss because he moved those clothes!”
Al now has three days to think about it, as he’ll be back on Tuesday with the rest of the morning show team…except for Jerry, who is on vacation next week.
