Boomer spent parts of Friday morning calling out the Rangers stars for not showing up in this Eastern Conference Final so far, but one of their stars has been on top of his game all postseason, and should be getting all the love from the fans for putting the team on his back.
That star is Igor Shesterkin, who once again kept New York in the game during Thursday’s game five, making 32 saves and shutting down multiple high-danger chances to give the Blueshirts a chance.
“Go back and look at every one of these games. There has to be at least 7-10 Grade A chances right in front of him, where there is nothing between him and the puck carrier,” Boomer said. “I know Henrik [Lundqvist] is a great player and a Hall of Famer. Mike Richter too…but Igor has had to do so much in these last two series…the defense is a disaster, from getting the puck out of their own zone to winning a puck battle.”
This series could very well be over already if not for Shesterkin’s play, and Boomer says fans better recognize that reality.
“Igor has been amazing. Anyone who even questions Igor is an idiot,” Boomer said. “The way he has played in this series and the previous series has been nothing short of a miracle. Everyone on that defense should be kissing his ass for saving their bacon.”
